Remembering Your Why

Why Coaching Matters

When the going gets tough, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. As a coach, your “why” is the driving force behind your passion and dedication. It’s the reason you put in the long hours, deal with the challenges, and celebrate the victories.

Reflect on Your Journey

  • Personal Experiences: Think back to your own athletic experiences. What inspired you to pursue sports? Were there specific coaches or mentors who made a lasting impact on your life?
  • Values and Beliefs: Consider your personal values and beliefs. What do you hope to instill in your athletes beyond sports skills? Are there life lessons or character traits you want to cultivate?
  • Impact on Others: Reflect on the positive influence you have on your players. How do you see your role in their development as individuals and athletes?
    Visualize the Future
  • Long-Term Goals: Imagine the long-term impact of your coaching. What kind of athletes do you want to develop? How do you hope your players will contribute to their communities and the world?
  • Legacy: Consider the legacy you want to leave behind. What do you want people to say about you as a coach?

By regularly reflecting on your “why,” you can reconnect with your passion and stay motivated, even during the most challenging times. Remember, your impact goes far beyond the scoreboard. You’re shaping young lives and making a difference in the world.
